Cuebiyar’al’shar (by Matthew Reurink)

In some, the Old Blood flows through their veins. For a few rare individuals, this flow is a torrent. They are the ones from ages past who have thwarted the forces of evil, and stood against the dark to the bitter end. As the Last Battle approaches, they shall become crusaders of the light; for the forces of the Dark One fear few more than their bitterest and most hated enemies of the past. These enemies of the shadow carry the might of all the ages before, the strength of will to stand against what must yet come. These people are the Cuebiyar’al’shar, the Soul of the Blood.

Lost To The Old Blood

Those who possess the Old Blood strongly enough find themselves struggling with their sense of identity. In time, their own memories become foggy, and eventually blur into obscurity to join the countless memories of other lives that reside within them. Eventually they don’t even realize this has happened. To them, this is the way it has always been.

Each time the player calls upon the Old Blood he must make a Will save (DC 12+ the number of times they have called upon the Old Blood today). If they fail, they gain 1 point of Lost to the Old Blood. As they gain points in LttOB, triggers become available that cause the Old Blood to become active. This often occurs without the player's knowledge, since their memories are not leading them to believe otherwise. When a new trigger becomes available, the old ones do not become inactive. To determine if an event listed causes a trigger, the GM rolls a d8. On a 1, LttOB triggers the effect that corresponds with the trigger.

Lost to the Old Blood chart:

LttOB Points Triggers Effects
1-10 None None
11-22 Opposed Charisma Check Old Grudge
23-35 Failed attempt to call on Old Blood Bad Memories
36-48 Any Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, or Perform Check Speak Old Tongue
49+ Any Knowledge Check Old Knowledge
Descriptions:

Old Grudge: You recall a feud between your people and the target's that happened long ago (even if the target actually is in no way affiliated with the feud). You become intolerant of the other person, and receive a -4 on all diplomacy checks with him.
Example: You recall a Grudge between your kingdom and what kingdom is now Tear. You become hostile towards the target because you recall the grudge. While this is happening, you are unaware of the fact that the person is not even from Tear.

Dovie'andi se tovya sagain.Bad Memories: You relive gruesome or frightening scenes from the past, most likely battle scenes, or massacres.

Speak Old Tongue: While talking, you slip into the Old Tongue. You are unaware of having done this. The message is more than likely lost on anyone who cannot speak in the Old Tongue.

Old Knowledge: When making a knowledge check, you recall information that is no longer relevant to the present.
Example: You make a successful Knowledge (Royalty and Nobility) check to recall who is currently ruling Murandy, but instead recall who ruled that region 1750 years ago. Old Knowledge does not affect Knowledge (History) checks that involve events more than 100 years old.
