This is an
example of a brown bear mutated by the influence of the Blight. There
are many variants, however, this particular strain (spiny
grizzly) has developed
tough spines along its body and mottled, green-brown fur over its
yellow-brown skin. It has also developed the bloodlust common to all
creatures of the Blight, generally attributed to their proximity to
Shayol Ghul.
The mutant
brown bear resembles, and follows the patterns of, a typical
brown bear. However, it is quicker to anger, more
predatory and more territorial than its common brethren, and will fight
to the death if challenged. The creature is large, and denser than the
more common brown bear, sometimes weighing nearly a ton and a half. A
rearing spiny grizzly can attain heights as great as ten feet.
Combat:
The spiny grizzly fights with a terrible strength, enhanced by its
bloodlust, increased strength, dexterity and its hardened spines,
detailed below.
Bloodlust
(Ex):
The creature is such a ferocious and terrible opponent that it will
continue to fight without penalty even while disabled or dying.
Spines:
The
creature has one or more layers of spines on its body that it
may bring to bear in combat or when enraged. Whenever an
opponent makes a successful strike in melee combat, the creature
may make a free attack of opportunity with its spines (Base
attack Bonus) that does 1d6 + 6 in damage.
